Children of Prisoners

PDF Print E-mail

When a parent is sent to prison, the families suffer emotionally and materially. Information gathered from all over our planet tells how these families suffer so greatly!

Children are vulnerable victims when a parent is sent to prison.  Often confused, most of the time  abandoned, Emotional and material deprivation are two obvious impacts on the children  of a prisoner. They are abused, exploited sexually, neglected and prone to child labour and contracting the deadly HIV/AIDs.

Most of the times these children suffer Loneliness and stigmatization ,unless you are told, these are children you probably walk past in your day to day life.

The children of prisoners are often disadvantaged due to lack of support and funds ,so they drop out of school to help support the family,or fend for themselves.

Some of the children of prisoners who end up on the street to look for a way to survive,  join gangs and eventually find themselves also caught up by the law something that enhances the cycle of crime.
